No Different – The Campaign
No Different is an initiative by Elixr in partnership with Grace Orchard School (GOS), a sped school which caters to students who have been diagnosed with Mild Intellectual Disability (MID) and Mild Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Through art, we hope to increase society’s awareness of how people with special needs are no different from any of us.
Since its founding, a conscious effort to give back through design has seen Elixr work with at least one non-profit group each year. The project, No Different, embodies the commemoration of our 5th year (2014) in a purposeful cause we care about. The name No Different was inspired by GOS, who envisioned a campaign which celebrates a focus on the similarities among people. Together, Elixr and GOS designed art activities which encourage interaction between mainstream and sped students, setting the spirit of the campaign in motion.
The / represents each individual. We all are unique in our own ways, however, in the grand scheme of things, we’re truly NO D/FFERENT.
Locations: Jurong West Public Library (Sep 11-29, 2014), Raffles Institution (Oct 19-21, 2014), MOE SPED Conference 2014
A lot of work goes into each installation. Here are some pictures of the prep work with more on the No Different Facebook page. As you can see, there’s lots of design, math, experimentation, testing, and fun!
